2. Shaggin’ @ Sapphire - Saturday, June 28

ShagginSummertime, beach music, BBQ, and Carolina Shag: a combination sure to make feet, heart, and mind happy. Don't have the Carolina Shag yet? Sapphire Ballroom & Dance Center, in the heart of downtown Christiansburg, has got it covered. On Saturday, June 28, Sapphire Ballroom will be hosting Shaggin' @ Sapphire, a day of Carolina Shag workshops, dinner, and dancing.

Starting in the early afternoon, Shaggin' @ Sapphire features a full 3 hours of Carolina Shag workshops, for both the brand-new beginner and the confident old-pro. There is something in the schedule perfect for everyone interested in dancing the Shag.

After the workshops, Sapphire will host a BBQ dinner catered by Hethwood Market, complete with a variety of sides, desserts, drinks, and kettle corn for everyone. It's a chance to relax, chat with other dancers, and make some new friends.

Then as evening sets in, Shaggin’ @ Sapphire will open up their excellent dance floor and welcome workshop attendees as well as the general public for a Carolina Shag Dance Party with special guest DJ Doug Woodson. There will be a 50/50 with proceeds going to sponsor Sapphire’s Junior Ballroom program and a raffle for a new pair of dance shoes.

5. Sapphires & Diamonds Update

AnniversaryAs the weeks roll by, and the Anniversary gets closer and closer, you can see excitement all around the studio. On the dance floor, you might see one couple working on an elegant Night Club 2-Step, another student practicing what looks like a fun Viennese Waltz. The next night, an intense Tango and light-hearted Fox Trot share floor space and music. In the office, Lane and Debbi are working the design for the souvenir totes, programs, and the web page, while trying pin down final details. And all the instructors are thinking up choreography and editing music. The excitement is spreading and anticipation is building (and contagious).

Even if you’re not performing in the showcase, you can still be a part of the celebration - plan on attending the Showcase to cheer your friends (or people you've never met before) as they put their feet forward and display what they have been working on for the last few months. Then come back for the Dance Party as we really let loose and celebrate by dancing the night away. All the details will be available online as soon as Debbi can get them put together into a web page!

6. Tying the Knot, With Rhythm and Style

Rachel & JohnWhether you want something cute and playful or classic and elegant, dance lessons can help you have a first dance that you'll enjoy watching, remembering, and dancing again, time after time.

“I love taking a nervous wedding couple and showing them how to feel at home on the dance floor. There are so many little tricks that can help them feel and look good,” says Lane, dance instructor and Co-Director at Sapphire. “Then to hear from them afterwards about how much fun they had and how impressed everyone was; that is the best part!”

To get started, all you need is the desire to learn. If you are hoping to do more than the “clutch and sway” on one of the most memorable days of your life, contact us. And your first dance as husband and wife won't be your last... it will be something you can do together for the rest of your lives!
