We've been decorating the tree, putting snowflakes in our windows, and stringing lights; ah, tis' the season. Our annual Snowflake Ball was Saturday, Dec 10, leaving only one social dance left this year: our Dance JAM this Friday at 8:30! We had such spectacular time with all the "Flakey" Sapphires on Saturday, I hope you all will come out to make the JAM on Friday just as awesome.

1. Keep dancing over the holidays; Dance JAMs, workshops, and CTAMs
The holidays are the perfect time to dance! Our Dance JAMs, Upper Level Workshops and "Cheaper Than A Movie" Beginner Workshops" continue as scheduled through Dec 19. Check on-line to find the details,

CTAM will start back up in the New Year on Friday, January 6.
Upper Level Workshops will kick into gear Monday, January 9, with Bachata, Night Club 2 Step, and Tango (the week after).
Dance JAMs will be JAM’ing again starting the 3rd Friday of January (the 20th) with a night featuring all your favorite Ballroom styles: Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, and more.
Plus, most of us instructors will be around for private lessons during December and January... so hit us up!

2. Back in the Swing: Kick the Winter Blues Dance Party, January 15
Shake the snow off and heat up the night by coming out to our tribute to the Blues. Wear blue jeans, a blue shirt, or blue hair - whatever floats your blues-boat. The lesson will feature West Coast Swing - a more bluesy dance is hard to find! If you are new to West Coast, be sure to come at the beginning of the lesson, when the material will be the easiest. Remember to bring a dish to share for a chance to win a gift from Sapphire.

3. Spring Sampler in Blacksburg
Join us for this one-night class, absolutely perfect for new dancers, on Wednesday, January 11 at 7:00pm. The Sampler costs only $5/person and is for everyone interested in dance classes, but not sure where to start. Come out to see styles from the "Essential" classes, hear about discounts, ask questions, and learn a little dancing. This one-hour class is your chance to try us out before committing to a 4-week class. Everyone who joins us this evening will receive a coupon for $5 OFF any Winter/Spring Sapphire Dance Class. This coupon is good with other offers, so feel free to combine it with our entourage discount (for groups of 5 or more) or our new Loyalty programs (details available soon).

4. January 2012 Group Classes
Our new set of Blacksburg group classes will start January 17 and 18,
http://www.sapphiredance.com/groupclasses.php. This session we’ll be featuring an Essential Ballroom and Latin classes as well as a Level 1 Salsa and West Coast Swing.
For the "Class by Request" slots, we are happy to offer the following.
-Level 2 Essential Swing on Tuesdays at 6:15pm
-Level 3 Bachata on Wednesdays at 8pm
And in Christiansburg…
Our first Weekender of the year will be a Level 1 Quickstep on January 14 & 15. This class does have prerequisites, so check it out on-line or ask your instructor if you’re ready for this fast-paced dance style.
In addition, we have a Level 3 Essential Ballroom on Tuesdays at 7pm starting Jan 17 on our fabulous floor at the studio. If you want to be a part of this class, let us know!

5. Beyond the Routine: West Coast Swing
West Coast Swing is a studio favorite, so we are all very excited about this class. Join this 8 week group class to learn a WCS routine from start to finish...full of embellishments and pizzazz. It starts Monday January 23rd at 7pm. We ask for people to have experience with Level 3 material, plus an Inside Whip. 6. Loyalty has Benefits: Sapphire’s new reward program for repeat dancers
New in 2012, Sapphire will be starting two new loyalty programs: one for 4-week group classes and Weekenders, the other for Dance Parties and Dance JAMs. The final details are still being worked out, but be on the lookout for the Loyalty Cards at the studio or in your group classes starting in January.

6. Sapphire on the Town Sapphire Staff is hitting the town again on Saturday, Oct 29, when we join the Roanoke Valley Chapter of USA Dance at their annual Halloween Dance. Join us at the Vinton War Memorial, 8-11:00pm for the spooky fun and a short mid-dance lesson by Sapphire Staff. Hope you enjoy these Fall days and be sure to find us on the dance floor!

Sapphire staff and students seem to have gotten bitten by the performance bug! We had a great time performing at Steppin' Out this year (thanks to all our performers!) and Dennis and Debbi couldn't resist dancing the Night Club 2 Step routine at the August Dance Party. Well, we have another performance for you - come out to our September 10th "Playing Favorites" Dance Party and you will see our 4-count Hustle routine class perform "Canned Heat"...a must see! Plus, you can join our pre-dance lesson on Waltz and get to dance to all of our favorite dance tunes.
Who knows what other performances we will have in October?!

1. Fall Schedule featuring new "Fall Sampler"
The Fall schedule is out!!
We have our September through December (and into January) schedule leaflet available. Classes are posted on-line at SapphireDance.com.
To prepare for the season and a new set of new group classes in Blacksburg, we are offering a "Fall Sampler" on September 13th at 7pm. The Sampler will give prospective students a chance to see some styles demonstrated, get a taste of what a group class will be like, meet members of Sapphire staff, and to ask questions.
It is only $5 to join the hour, so bring all your friends! We hope this will help anyone unsure of which class to take to pick one just right for them.

2. West Coast Swing "Styling" Group class and Cha Cha Workshops
Monday nights just got a bit more groovy and a tad cheeky......
We have a West Coast Swing "Styling" group class from Sept. 19 to Oct. 3 at 7pm. All you need is Level 3 West Coast experience and a desire to make your WCSwing look good!
Starting October 17, we are starting an 8 week, Cha Cha "Floored". We are taking our Cha Cha routine and putting it on the social dance floor by showing you how to lead and follow those fancy routine moves.

3. Sapphire on the Town for National Ballroom Dance week
The USA Dance Roanoke chapter is celebrating National Ballroom Week with workshops at the Salem YMCA on Sept. 17 and Sept. 24.
On Saturday the 17th, 3-4:15pm, come heat up the floor at an intermediate to advanced Salsa lesson led by our very own Linda Stancill and David Verde (see item #4). There will also be a beginner to intermediate Salsa workshop led by Jose Zuniga at the same time.
On Saturday the 24th, 3-4:15pm, Dennis Williams, the one we all know and love, will be teaching a beginner to intermediate Fox Trot lesson. Jose Zuniga will be teaching the intermediate to advanced Fox Trot lesson at the same time.

4. Sapphire Ballroom is excited to welcome David Verde to the team
We have a new instructor at Sapphire Ballroom!
David was born in Honduras, grew up in Buena Vista, Va., and now lives in Christiansburg with his wife, Melissa. When David was 18 he fell in love with salsa dancing, followed by bachata and merengue. He has been teaching salsa for a little over 5 years and is thrilled to be joining the Sapphire team. Come meet him at the Sept. 16 CTAM and Dance JAM (Essential Latin Theme).
