As usual, with the end of the school year and the beginning of summer, I have dropped the ball with communication. I apologize. But, I’m getting back in the swing - pun intended - and here are three delightful dance opportunities you really need to know about, coming your way super soon! I intend to have another newsletter out this weekend with info on June Deep Dives and the start of a series of playlists for you to take with you to events. In the meantime:

• Carolina Shag is coming to the FBWs.
• Nightclub 2-Step will shine at the Night Groove Dance Party.
• A beginner-friendly Salsa 4-night group class is starting soon.

The events below have just been added or have exciting news to share, but don't forget about the regulars: Historic Dance, Beginning Line Dance, Advanced Line Dance, and Exercises to Improve Balance (more details on our webpage).

Carolina Shag in the FBWs

Friday Beginner Workshops in June will be featuring Carolina Shag - the ultimate summertime Swing dance! Come out on any of the Fridays in June to dip your toes in the sand (figuratively) and get a great beginner’s lesson in the official dance of beach vacations. 

Each week we will start with the basic and add a fun move to go with it.  If you come to all the weeks, you’ll get to review the foundations over and over, plus have a nice suitcase full of fun moves to dance.  If you can only make it to one or two lessons, don’t worry! You’ll still be able to dance the night away by the end of the evening. 

Days: Every Friday in June starting this week!

Time: 7-8pm

Cost: $9/person/Friday

Please let us know you’re coming by noon the day of. Registration available online, by email or over the phone - just tell us your name and if you’re bringing anyone with you.  

Nightclub 2-Step at the Night Groove Dance Party

Feeling the Rhythm of the Night? Feel like Dancing in the Moonlight? We're throwing a night-themed Dance Party this Saturday that's going to be unforgettable, and we'd love for you to join us. This a great chance for you to show off your Night Moves.

We’ll be starting the evening with a Nightclub 2-Step lesson - great for beginners and still exciting for advanced dancers. Come sway under the stars and light up the dance floor with us. No experience or partner necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and your dancing shoes!

When: This Saturday, June 8. Lesson at 7:00pm. Open dancing at 8:00pm.

Dress Code: Anything star-touched, moonlit, or night groovy. I mean - you could wear your pajamas: I won’t stop you.

Music: A mix of classic ballroom tunes and modern beats - anything that strikes our star-struck fancy.

Highlights: Nightclub 2-Step - that elegant but simple slow dance that will sweep you off your feet! Plus swing, salsa, waltz, and more… Check out our YouTube playlist for a sample of the music.

Parking and Rockin’ Main Street: If you came to last month’s Dance Party, or have been watching the Town of Christiansburg’s Socials, you might think - isn’t this Saturday a Rockin’ Main Street Concert? Why yes, it is! But this time I’ve been assured that they will be down the other end of Main Street, not on our block. So, if you feel like heading our way early - you could enjoy some excellent local music, dinner from fine food trucks, and then end with some excellent dancing. That sounds like an awesome evening to me.

Beginner Friendly Salsa (4-night group class) starting soon

Are you ready to add some sizzle to your dancing? Whether you're a complete novice or just new to Salsa, our beginner-level Salsa dance class is perfect for you. In this class, you'll learn the fundamental steps, basic turns, and exciting combinations of Salsa dancing. We will start nice and slow, and build to the faster speeds you’ll see out dancing in the wild. As an added bonus, you’ll get a little bit of Merengue at the same time. Merengue is a long-time hermano of Salsa and will give your brain and feet a welcome break from the challenges of learning Salsa.

No partner or prior experience is needed - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn!

Attire: Comfortable clothing and shoes that allow you to move freely. If you’re brand new, we don’t recommend heels, but you do you. Big, heavy shoes are not your friends.

Days: Thursday evenings 7-8pm

Dates: The class runs on Thursdays from June 20 through July 25, using our summer-friendly schedule where you get to choose 4 of the 5 possible nights: June 20, June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25. So - no worries if you’re going on vacation - you’re not out of anything!

Cost: $42/person for 4 lessons.
