Waltz, Tango, and Fox Trot make up the "Essential Ballroom" styles. They each have their own character and yet several moves work beautifully in all three. In this workshop, we'll be examining the similarities that tie these classic dances together. This workshop is not super advanced or intended to be super challenging, but will give you some mind blowing ideas to play with.
Participants should know basic American Tango, about 7-10 moves including closed and promenade position, as well as having a solid foundation in Waltz or Fox Trot. A "solid foundation" is less about the number of moves that you have learned and more about how comfortable you are with them and how ready you are to start building more on top of them. If you you have questions, email us or ask your favorite Sapphire Instructor.

You are Local Traffic.
You can drive around the signs.
|
If you have been to downtown Christiansburg lately, you might have noticed there's some construction going on. In fact there's several projects happening all at once and they are concentrated at the corner of Hickok Street and Main Street, about 200 feet from our door. There are barricades blocking the turn from Franklin Street onto W Main Street. There are more blocking access to Hickok Street. And there's construction happening to the former Charlie's Restaurant Building right across the street from us. It's a mess. But it's not nearly the mess that it seems to be at first glance! And it's necessary. So let's get around this hurdle, shall we?
To get to our normal street parking on Main Street, right outside our door, simply drive around the barricades. If you are coming to see us, or any other downtown business (like New River Comics and Games, Hard Part Barber & Beard Parlor, or our neighbors New River Valley Academy of Dance), you are local traffic, and so you are allowed to drive around those signs. Turning around at the end of our block can be tricky, but fortunately, there's rarely any other moving cars to deal with.
So, please, don't let the parking discourage you from coming to see us! I know it awkward, but the repairs and upgrades causing all this construction are good things both for us and for the town, Unfortunately, they are going to take a while. I believe at least through February.
If you have concerns or questions, please get in touch: info@sapphiredance.com, 540-382-8782. |

Night Groove Dance Party
Saturday, August 9
8:00pm ~ $10/person
Complimentary beginner-plus
Rumba lesson at 7:00
|
It's been a long time since we've had a social event of any kind. It's been several months at least since we've had an evening Dance Party. And we'd love to have you join us in making this one spectacular!
For those of you new to the Social Dance concept, we have a beginner-friendly lesson at 7, start playing music of all kinds at 8, and groove until we're tired. At about 9:00, we'll pause for a mixer and then keep dancing. Most people change partners at a dance party - you do not have to, but it's great way to sample a new dance! Everyone is friendly (how did we get so lucky?) and willing to answer questions or share a story. And people bring food to share.
It is a party, and we dance. What could be better?
A theme! We will be celebrating at things "night" and "groovy" or summery and smooth. So, throw on that Hawaiian shirt; slide on that shimmery, starry dress; or come as you are - ready for a vacation.

Sapphire's group classes and workshops are always small, low stress, and fun. They are a great way to meet other people who have also decided to learn to dance, as well as get to know our teaching staff.
