Sapphire Ballroom
Sapphire Dance News - November 2015

It’s fall ya’ll! We tried to think of way to incorporate a Pumpkin Spice something into our fall offerings but, alas, it couldn’t be done. But, we do have dance parties, group classes, and a performance from our Junior Ballroom Club for you this November. Maybe you can bring the Pumpkin Spice?

1 - November Group Classes in Blacksburg start this Tuesday and Wednesday

Dance ClassOur last set of Blacksburg classes for 2015 starts November 10th & 11th….weird, I know! They won’t start back up until January 19 & 20, so you don’t want to miss out this time. Whether it’s Ballroom, Latin, or Swing you are looking for, it’s waiting for you to join in this November.

This is a great session to take take your first class - all of the Level 1’s are great for beginners or a fun review for long-time fans.

Make your selection from smooth, light-hearted Fox Trot; romantic and elegant Night Club 2-Step; sassy, flirty Rumba; and cheeky and fast Hustle.

If you’re looking for something more advanced, think about jumping into the Level 3 West Coast Swing (on Wednesdays) or check out Monday nights at the Studio (see below).

For more information on all Blacksburg Group Classes, check out the schedule at

2 - “Cheaper-Than-A-Movie” Beginner Workshops [CTAM]

CTAM Friday Night Beginner WorkshopsHave you heard? Our Friday night beginner workshops are cheaper than that movie date you are considering. But more importantly, a dance lesson is way more social! What better way to get to know someone, or hang out with some friends, or just try something new, than take a super-fun and beginner-friendly dance class. If you want to get a glimpse into what a Friday night at Sapphire, or really any of our programs, can look like, check out this video,, then make plans to join us this Friday!

Learning the LeadsThere are lots of holidays coming up, so check the schedule to make sure CTAM is happening and to find out what we are teaching:

So, come out, bring a date (or on your own), take a selfie and tweet or share it with us at @DanceAtSapphire or, #DateNight@Sapphire.

3 - Gobbler’s Gala - a November Dance Party!

GRoup Class coupleOver the hills and through the Sapphire Ballroom we go! Come and join us, whether by horse and sleigh (or not), to burn off a slew of calories in preparation for your Thanksgiving meal ;) We tried to think “what dance would get people’s heart rate up the most?” and we choose Quickstep!

And we have a very special treat for everyone at this dance!! Junior Ballroom @ Sapphire, our lovely group of teens, is finishing their Fall Session and have put together a Hustle and Waltz routine to share at our 9:30 break. So, come out and make sure you stick around for that!

After this month, there’s only one more dance of the year - Peppermint Ball with a Polka Lesson. Check it out at

As always, bring your favorite snack to share and get entered for a door prize drawing. Maybe this is where we will find the pumpkin spice?

4 - Upper Level Mondays at Sapphire Studio

SwingIf you’ve been dancing a while, and want new moves to spruce up your dancing; if you have had two or three classes, and want to continue to the next level; if you feel like you’ve outgrown the Friday night workshops; it’s time to join us on Monday nights!

We don’t know why Mondays got the honor of being Sapphire’s “Upper Level” night, but it started years ago and now it’s tradition: 4-Week Classes, One-Night Workshops, and Routine Classes join forces to make Monday the place to be for advanced and advancing dancers.

SalsaRight now, we are continuing with bouncy, spin-filled fun in a Swing workshop series featuring both Single Time and East Coast Swing, as well as exploring the extravagant elegance of Night Club 2-Step. Both sets of workshops are open for anyone ready to join in. Check out the prereqs at and if you’re not sure you qualify - give us a shout.

December’s line-up features Quickstep at 7:00 (see below), but the 8:00 time is in need of your input. What workshops would you like to take?

5 - Quickstep - Renewing Old Friendships

QuickstepWe will be digging up old memories and telling familiar stories starting Monday, November 30, when the next 4-week Monday night class starts. So, maybe you’ve met Quickstep before, or maybe you’ve only been hanging out with his cousin, Fox Trot. Either way, you’ve heard how fun this powerfully flowing dance can be. You don’t need to know Quickstep to come and enjoy, but you do need at least Level 4 Fox Trot.
Mark your calendar, register, and get ready to rekindle old friendships or make new ones!

6 - Sapphire On The Town

Dennis and RachelMany of you have heard about Dennis’s winning performance with Rachel Cook of WSLS the “Dancing with the Valley Stars” and some of you may have even seen the performance on youtube. In case you haven’t we are including it here, Even if you have seen it, you know you want to watch it's that good!

Liz was at the Virginia Tech Ballroom Club’s “Balloween” dance on October 31, teaching Paso Doble. Their dances are always so much fun: free for members and open to the general public. Debbi will be teaching Fox Trot at their dance on December 5.

And next summer, Sapphire Staff will have the pleasure of returning to Mountain Lake Lodge to have the "Time of Our Lives" at another year's Dirty Dancing Weekends. These weekends are excellent fun for us, and we hear over and over again how great they are for the guests. Mountain Lake is taking registrations right now, so get yours in if you would like to join us...
