Have you got spring fever?

Man, February was a wild month. We had 2 visiting instructors: Abi Jennings taught West Coast Swing and JW Becker worked with the staff on Waltz and Cha Cha. We had a lovely group of new couples come out to the various Valentine's events we hosted where they learned Rumba, Hustle, Waltz, and Salsa. We dove into WCS on Mondays and Waltzed through the Beginner Fridays. We had wonderful crowds at Beginner Line Dance. We hosted the Virginia Tech Chapter of CHAARG for a night of Line dancing. And we hosted the first Dirty Dancing Weekend of 2026 at Mountain Lake Lodge. All while dealing with the last of Winter's fury. (Cross your fingers and knock on wood - here's hoping that winter is done with us.)

March is looking a bit more normal, but there's still lots of opportunities to dance! I'm the most excited about the Pi Day Social. We've never done one, and I'm a huge fan of Pi. Plus, I've already heard several people talking about what kind of pies to bring. It's gonna be awesome!

You spin me 'round baby!
If you feel like you've been running around in circles, it might be time for pie. I mean - time for a break to celebrate the mathemusical wonder of all things round, like Pie. Come enjoy an afternoon of casual fun, nerdy music, pie, and dancing with a side of whipped cream.
We’ll start the afternoon with a short Hustle lesson. This dance is great for beginners and still exciting for advanced dancers.

Will there be a mixer mid-dance? Probably. No experience or partner necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and your dancing shoes!
Bring a snack to share (pie) and earn our eternal gratitude.

Our next Socials will be Spring Fling on Sat Apr 11 at 7pm and Playing Favorites on Sat May 16 at 3pm (this is not a second Saturday - we had to move because of scheduling conflicts).

Historic Dance in Casual Clothes

Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies.

This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing.

Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set.

If you're interested in learning to dance but don't know where to start, this is the place. Single Time Swing is simple, energetic and quickly rewarding. Combine a relatively simple basic with fun and bouncey music, and you've got a recipe for smiles a mile wide.

Our next set of lessons will feature Hustle (Mar 27, Apr 3, & Apr 10). Then we will get into Triple Time Swing (Apr 17, Apr 24, May 1). And then we've Carolina Shag for you in May - just in time for Summer. All of these dances are closely related. So you'll be able to keep building your swinging skills all spring!

Our annual Spring Line Dance Sale officially runs March 20 - June 20 (Spring Equinox to Summer Solstice), but I've had so many people ask about it, I decided to start a little early.

As in, now, today - you can buy six BLD workshops for only $36! Share them with friends or keep them for yourself - it's up to you.

Spring Sale punch cards are good for 6 months from the time of purchase. There will be 12 Beginner Line Dance workshops in that time. You only need to make it 4 of them to be worthwhile.
