Group Lessons and Events
Visit our Square Store to pay online (and register at the same time) for classes and private lessons.
The lesson listing is updated about once a month, unless something unexpected happens. If you see less than a week's worth of several types of events, an update should be on its way.
Our typical schedule includes Friday Beginner Workshops, Line Dancing on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, What's Next Classes and Workshops (not for beginners) on Mondays, and (seasonally) 4-Hour Group Classes on various week nights.

Dive into Bolero
Basics of a not basic dance Bolero What's Next Workshop
Monday, December 9, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
You might ask, what is Bolero? Isn't it a jacket? Did Ravel compose it? Well yes, but Bolero is also a beautiful, slow, intense, and challenging ballroom dance. Picture International Rumba with the elegant frame and graceful rise-and-fall of Waltz. That's what I'm talkin' about. And we’re going to do our first Deep Dive ever into Bolero.
We will be diving into what makes Bolero uniquely Bolero and not just a strange International Rumba. Participants will learn and practice several moves, apply Bolero motion to all of them, and learn a short routine that can be used over and over again while social dancing.
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: $21/person in-studio (hour and a half workshop).

Prerequisite: Participants do not need to know any Bolero. But you should be comfortable dancing in a closed frame and have a solid foundation in a Latin break-based dance style like Rumba, Cha Cha, or Salsa.

Historic Dance (in casual clothes)
Historic Dance (English Country Dance) Workshop
Tuesday, December 10, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing.
Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set.
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: This workshop is free, but a donation jar will be out during the dancing, if you feel like adding a couple of dollars. .

Prerequisite: None! Beginner and advanced dancers will find lots to love at this workshop.

Annual Cookie Exchange Salsa Dance Party
Saturday, December 14, 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Dress festive & bring cookies to exchange with other dancers!
Or come in jeans and eat other people’s cookies - it’s all good. Whether you're here for the dancing, or the cookies, or the quirky Sapphire take on Holiday music, plan for a glorious evening of light-hearted fun beginning with a Single Time Swing Lesson. Will there be a mixer mid-dance? Ho-ho-Oh yeah. Ever heard of a snowball mixer? How could we pass it up!
Join fellow dancers, young, old, experienced, and shiny new for an evening of good food, good friends, good times, great music, and incredible dancing.
No food contest back at this dance because it's all about the sharing. That's a prize worth cooking for.

Climb Higher, Dive Deeper
The next step to mastering Bolero Bolero What's Next Workshop
Monday, December 16, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Take the plunge and learn more, more, more Bolero. This workshop is still not a “high dive,” not intended to be super challenging, but will give you some more coolness to play with.

Prerequisite: Participants should either know basic Bolero or have attended the previous workshop.

Hustle Friday Beginner Workshop
Friday, January 3, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Always wanted to learn to dance but didn't know where to start? Hustle is your friend. Country, blues, rock, metal, pop, hip hop - they all have hustles! It works beautifully to such a large variety of music that we try to teach it to random people on the street.
Missed last week? No problem! Each week we teach a 40-50 minute lesson, starting with the absolute basics in a fun, popular dance style. And then, finish off the hour with a little taste of another style that will be on the schedule later in the season.
It makes an awesome #DateNight, #ParentsNightOut, or an evening of #FunWithFriends.
Location: Sapphire Studio (downtown Christiansburg) and online

Beginner Line Dancing
You don't need a partner to have a great time dancing! Line Dance Workshop
Tuesday, January 7, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
With an exciting combination of ultra beginner and slightly more challenging dances, this workshop will get your toes tapping in no time. Easiest dances are taught at the beginning of the evening, more challenging dances towards the end, with a bit of social dancing and practice time in between. So, if you've never done this before, come early!
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: $9/person in-studio.

Registration by noon the day of the event required. We will accommodate late registrations when we can.
Prerequisite: None! We search the Line Dance world for dances that both beginner and advanced line dancers will love. If you want something more challenging, look for ALD typically on the first Monday of the month.
