Group classes are 4 lesson-hours long. Most classes meet for 1 hour per week. Workshops are classes that require only a 1-day commitment. These can vary in length from 1-3 hours, and vary in skill level necessary to participate. Prerequisite classes can be replaced by private lessons. Class-By-RequestThese time slots are reserved for students to request specific classes. If you have a class in mind, look for a couple time slots that work for you and contact us. We’ll try to find at least 5 other people who want that class, and presto! We have a new class (by request). BachataSlower than Merengue and Salsa, Bachata is a Latin Dance Club must. The step patterns and rhythms are easy enough for new dancers to try and a great lead up to faster Salsas. BoleroBolero is a beautiful and dramatic dance, characterized by its smooth styling and "drop & drift" action. Testing our control and balance, this dance is suited for slower Rumba rhythms. Carolina ShagWho doesn't love Beach Music? Wouldn't you love to be able to dance to it? Carolina Shag is all about beach music, groovin' in the sand, and fancy feet. The material will mostly be lead/follow patterns, with only a few "mirror patterns." Cha ChaFast and sassy, Cha Cha is an energetic, sexy dance which works well with club, hip hop, country, and classic rock as well as popular Latin music. . Country Two-StepCountry two-step is a fast-paced dance that really travels around the floor, and is all about turning the girl. So, if you like to spin or be spun, this dance will knock your socks off! Boots and Hats not required. East Coast SwingSingle Time and East Coast Swings - two of our most popular swinging styles pair up to make this class fun and energetic full of bounce, rhythm, and groovy moves. First & Final FlourishesEver feel awkward starting a dance? Not sure how to get moving, and not sure what to do when the music ends? Feel the desire to learn a dip? This class is for you. Fox TrotBreezy and fun for beginners! Step out with your baby and swagger like Astair onto the dance floor with this Ballroom classic, perfect for dancing to to the old crooners. Frequently done to big band favorites, Fox Trot makes a great wedding dance. Historic Dance (English Country Dance)English Country Dance is a form of Social dance which originated in England in the 17th century and was danced throughout the American Colonies during that period. This dance style holds the roots of both modern Square Dance and Contra Dancing as well as being a major influence in Appalachian group dances.
Social dancing in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries was an integral part of English and Colonial American society, bring together neighborhoods, families, and communities - a tradition the NRV Historic Dancers hope to carry on. HustleGet down and boogie - Disco Fever is still raging and there's nothing like Hustle to get you groovin' and movin'. 4-Count Hustle is done to fast music and danced with a steady, driving rhythm. 3-Count Hustle speeds the steps up for slower music and adds some excitement and syncopation to the rhythm. These classes/workshops will cover both styles as well as the turns, turns, and more turns which made the Disco Inferno Hot! (4-week Classes focus more on 4-Count, while workshops address both styles equally.). International RumbaA slow and passionate dance, International Rumba shares many figures with its American cousin, but has a style and grace all its own.
Intro to Social DanceDon't spend another evening watching others dance! This class will take you on a tour of some of our most popular social dance styles. You will learn the basics of lead and follow, dance position, and a mix of slow and fast dances. Material can be partially determined by class requests. Junior BallroomLearn to glide across the dance floor and twirl with your partner to incredible music, both current and classic. Lindy HopAny Hep Cat can tell you – this dance is smooth and sophisticated! Lindy Hop is a flashy swing dance often shown in movies and commercials. While there are many different types and styles of Lindy today, we will focus on a slotted 8-count dance with a healthy dose of 6-count mixed.
Line DanceLine dance is an easy and fun way to get your feet moving and your toes tapping.
