Social Events

Social Events are for all dancers, no matter their skill level. Social dance is much about the people as the dancing, and these events make the "Social" a highlight!

	Tuesday, June 9, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm - Historic Dance (English Country Dance) Workshop Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing. Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set. Price: This workshop is free, but a donation jar will be out during the dancing, if you feel like adding a couple of dollars. 	Saturday, June 13, 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm - Nightclub 2-Step Evening Social Nightclub 2-Step at the Night Groove Social Feeling the Rhythm of the Night? Feel like Dancing in the Moonlight? We're throwing a night-themed Dance Party that's going to be unforgettable, and we'd love for you to join us. This a great chance for you to show off your Night Moves. We’ll be starting the evening with a Nightclub 2-Step lesson - great for beginners and still exciting for advanced dancers. Come sway under the stars and light up the dance floor with us. No experience or partner necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and your dancing shoes! So plan now to join fellow dancers, young, old, experienced, and shiny new for an evening of good food, nice people, great music, and incredible dancing. Like to cook? bring a snack to share (sweet or savory) and get the chance to win a free private lesson or $50 gift card (minimum attendance of 10 for contest to run). 	Saturday, July 11, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm - Carolina Shag Afternoon Social As the warmth of summer envelops us, it's time to dive into some cool, refreshing dancing at our Summer Road Trip Dance Party. Dust off your beach attire, grab those shades, and get ready to dance the night away in summer style. Whether you're a beach-comber, a mountain hiker, or a lake-boater, there'll be tunes to keep you grooving. Attire: Wear your favorite souvenir shirt to channel that vacation vibe! We’ll be starting the evening with a Carolina Shag lesson - great for beginners and still exciting for advanced dancers. No experience or partner necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and your dancing shoes! Join fellow dancers, young, old, experienced, and shiny new for an evening of good food, good friends, good times, great music, and incredible dancing.
