Group Lessons and Events
Visit our Square Store to pay online (and register at the same time) for classes and private lessons.
The lesson listing is updated about once a month, unless something unexpected happens. If you see less than a week's worth of several types of events, an update should be on its way.
Our typical schedule includes Friday Beginner Workshops, Line Dancing on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, What's Next Classes and Workshops (not for beginners) on Mondays, and (seasonally) 4-Hour Group Classes on various week nights.

Historic Dance (in casual clothes)
Historic Dance (English Country Dance) Workshop
Tuesday, October 14, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing.
Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set.
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: This workshop is free, but a donation jar will be out during the dancing, if you feel like adding a couple of dollars. .

Smooth moves on the dance floor
Fox Trot Friday Beginner Workshop
Friday, October 17, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Classic and smooth, the Fox Trot will get your swagger on in no time. This debonair dance will teach you grace and balance with rhythm and confidence. With a slow pace and simple rhythm, Fox Trot is a wonderful dance to start your ballroom journey with.
Missed last week? No problem! Each week we teach a 40-50 minute lesson, starting with the absolute basics in a fun, popular dance style. And then, finish off the hour with a little taste of another style that will be on the schedule later in the season.
It makes an awesome #DateNight, #ParentsNightOut, or an evening of #FunWithFriends.

Beginner Line Dancing
You sure got to boogie Line Dance Line Dance Workshop
Tuesday, October 21, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Seriously - you need to get up and boogie! Combine awesome music with expert instruction and you've got a beginner-friendly workshop that will get you moving in no time. Each BLD workshop features an exciting combination of ultra beginner and slightly more challenging dances, giving you the chance to get your feet under you and then challenge yourself to do more. Easiest dances are taught at the beginning of the evening, more challenging dances towards the end, with a bit of social dancing and practice time in between. So, if you've never done this before, come early!

Dive Deeper into American Rumba
Rumba Deep Dive Workshop
Monday, October 27, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
American Rumba is the OG slow dance - filled romance and excitement. But it gets real advanced, real fast.
We will be diving into what makes Rumba so sweet and how good technique makes it all flow. Participants will learn and practice several moves, learn to use good technique in all of them, and get a short routine that can be used over and over again while social dancing.

Price: $21/person in-studio for one hour and a half workshop
$32/person in-studio for both hour and a half workshops.

Intermediate Line Dance
Ready to Level Up, but not too much. Line Dance Line Dance Workshop
Monday, November 3, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
So you've danced around the walls a time or two and you're ready for more? Awesome. We'd love to have you! The dances taught on Monday nights tend to have a larger variety of figures, rhythms, and more complicated transitions than beginner line dances (taught on Tuesdays), so be prepared to battle wall-nesia and get your feet tangled on the path to LD success. But the result will be worth it, without doubt.

Price: $14/person in-studio or 4 workshops for $42/person .

Prerequisite: Dancers participating in these Intermediate LD workshops should be comfortable dancing common Line Dance figures including vines, turns, triple steps, etc. You should also be prepared to be challenged.

Exercises to Improve Balance
Technique What's Next Workshop
Monday, November 3, 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This exercise class is specifically geared towards improving your balance while dancing. Of course, that also means improving your balance while standing and walking, which really can't be a bad thing. You will sweat; you may be sore; you will probably complain (we all do); but we keep coming back for more.
Location: Sapphire Studio (downtown Christiansburg) and online
Price: $14/person in-studio or $9/person online.

Dive into Waltz
Basics of a not-so-simple Twinkle Waltz Deep Dive Workshop
Monday, November 10, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
We will be diving into what makes Waltz so elegant and romantic, and how to master all those rotations. Participants will learn and practice several moves, learn to use good Waltz technique in all of them, and get a short routine that can be used over and over again while social dancing.
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: $21/person in-studio for one hour and a half workshop
$48/person in-studio for all 3 hour and a half workshops this month.

Prerequisite: Participants should be comfortable dancing slow Waltz, including several rotations and be able to dance the fundamental moves of Level 1 & 2 on command at several speeds (not Viennese Waltz Speeds - that's a different class).

Take the plunge and learn more, more, more Waltz. This workshop is still not a “high dive,” not intended to be super challenging, but will give you some more coolness to play with.
